“Fiddler: A Miracle of Miracles” is the origin story behind one of Broadway’s most beloved and enduring musicals: Fiddler on The Roof. This film opened nationally last August, already winning plaudits across the country and features interviews with: Lyricist Sheldon Harnick, producer Hal Prince, original cast member Austin Pendleton, Broadway figures Lin-Manuel Miranda, Joel Grey, Chaim Topol, and Harvey Fierstein, among many others. Gary John makes an appearance discussing the genius work of director-choreographer Jerome Robbins and is thrilled to once again be a part of this great musical’s legacy.

University of South Dakota
(October 2019 – Department of Theatre, Vermillion, SD)

Invited as a Guest Artist in Residence, following coaching work with the USD Seniors at Actors Connection NY last Spring. Offered a variety of workshops, from “Musical and Dramatic Audition Coaching” to several in-depth “Jerome Robbins / Fiddler on the Roof” dance workshops to a “Directing Professionally” seminar. It was a diverse and unique experience for the students enrolled in the Department of Theatre.

Staging this annual event produced by LI-based ADM Productions which features a variety of talent in unique live interactive presentations. Transitions Academy is one of the most well-recognized educational meetings in the optical industry. Each year, industry professionals from around the world attend this show to participate in professional development and hear from experts and educators on marketing and industry trends.

Excited to create and stage a unique evening of song featuring some of Broadway’s best and brightest talent for the Gingold Theatre Group. GTG is committed to promoting the ideals of activist-playwright George Bernard Shaw, who was an accomplished pianist and relished popular song. This very special April event will be an elegant cabaret featuring songs he might have enjoyed in one of NYC’s most treasured locations.

(April 2020 – Axelrod PAC, Deal Park, NJ)

Thrilled and humbled to reunite the original company of this hugely successful Off-Broadway revue celebrating the great music of Kander & Ebb. Featuring the incomparable Terry Burrell, Bob Cuccioli, Karen Mason, Jim Walton and Karen Ziemba, this semi-staged concert will feature all the original orchestrations conducted by John McDaniel. It is a celebration and reunion nearly 30 years in the making.

(Opening July 2020 – Cabrillo Stage, Aptos, CA)

Returning to Cabrillo Stage and thrilled to work on yet another classic Leonard Bernstein score. Candide is a rich satire brimming with adventure, surprise and an extraordinarily diverse musical score. Based on the work of 18th century French author Voltaire, this production will feature a cast of nearly forty, a full orchestra and the rich production values Monterey Bay audiences have come to expect.

(Opening September 2020 – ArtisTree Music Theatre Festival, Woodstock, VT)

Returning to ArtisTree for a fourth season to direct and choreograph this classic Schmidt & Jones show. Based on Jan de Hartog’s “The Fourposter,” this delightful two-character musical is set in a bedroom and covers fifty years of marriage. Featuring one of their most endearing scores, the intimate Grange Theatre in beautiful central Vermont is the perfect venue for this valentine of a show.

Gary John will be a guest coach and give theatre workshops for visiting universities through the Growing Studio and the NY division of Actors Connection in conjunction with the students' Senior Class Agent Showcases. In addition, he will repeat these duties and be a Guest Adjudicator for the Florida Thespian Festival in Tampa, Fl.
